I have been trying to find out if Ford ever put a 6.9 or a 7.3 IDI diesel into the full size broncos. I like the bronco's size but i am hooked on the 6.9s and would like one in a bronco. If ford did not, would it be easier to find a standard cab 4x4 f250 doner truck to pull all of the parts from and swap into a bronco? including ,4spd tranny, front and rear end, wireing etc would the swap be feasable? I can get a bronco with a c6 and a blown 302 for $200.00. I'm just going down a rabbit trail here.
I don't think ford ever did that. I think it would be neat but the vehicle would be way too nose heavy esp. being so short in the wheelbase. The 6.9/7.3 weighs 900 to 1000 lbs. I'm sure there are a lot of other opinions/comments. Very possible it has been done by someone. Good Luck!
Ford never made one but centurion converstions did make a four door diesel bronco, 3/4 or 1 ton SRW. I have seen a few around, never seen an early 80's. late 80's and lots of the 93-97 style's think it was only an 87 and later thing. pretty cool looking just like a suburban but a ford, and with a Diesel.
there is a 92 -94 4 door bronco here in benson az i have seen a few times. a 4door bronco with the 82-86 front clip would be cool.
what i am thinking is If i could find a standard cab 4x4 with a short bed it would make the perfect frame to chop to fit a bronco body on. i am thinking of moding a chassis from a truck that had a 6.9 from the factory because it is heaver

Benson.... I grew up east of Tombstone ... Wow small world.
I think you are on the right track starting with the frame and cutting it down. I doub't the 1/2 ton coils will like that 6.9 very much. If you search around a little you might find some more info. Basically all the 80 and up ford trucks shared the same dimensions and body parts. Everything from the diesel truck should theoretically bolt into your bronco. I too like the idea of a 6.9 in a bronco. I know they are heavy, but by working around a few things you can decrease the front end weight faily easily. Relocating the batteries will move 100 lbs to the rear. Swapping the knuckles on the ifs to the 8 lug versions will give you bigger brakes, or swap in a dana 50 ifs or solid dana 60. Anybody who has ever driven a Scout 800 model with the V-8 option can tell you that a little front end heavy doesn't necessarily make an unstable platform.
I was thinking of putin about 500 lbs in the back end for better weight distribution. a couple of plates of steel bolted to the frame should do the trick plus it would give extra traction on the rear like the engine would in the front.
