? on Craftsman Lifetime Guarantee

I got a question for you guys who like to break tools
I loaned my brother my crasftsman tool kit and he brought it back with a busted screwdriver handle. It's the one with the aluminum (i think) shaft and a nice big black handle. He obviouly used it as a chisle or something, because the tip is smashed and the bits don't fit anymore. Would Sears replace this or refuse since it was misused?

If it's a Craftsman and not a 'Companion'. . . . yup, they'll replace it.

Edit: I mean, all they could possibly say is "No." It's not like they will take you to 'tool jail' or take away your birthday.

While Craftsman would replace it, I would make him replace it, or tell him that it showed evidence of abuse and you had to buy another one. I know they won't replace the bits.

Calm down, he's my brother.....
Actually, I think it was his "mechanic" friend that did it. I saw how he was using a jack handle as a pry bar and broke that too.
I'm just gonna hand it to him and tell him, "This was not in this condition when you borrowed it, so take it to sears and get a new one, hopefully you won't have to pay for it!"

I have returned craftsman tools at sears before and they replaced them just fine. I once took a pair of plyers in that were a few years old to say the least. No questions asked. Walked out with a new pair.

The best thing to do is make friends with one of the guys in your local Sears' Hardware department.
If they like ya, they'll replace just about anything (brand not important).
The only limitation there is ratchets, as they are now encouraged to rebuild them rather than replace with new.

But, yes, they will almost always replace a broken Craftsman hand tool, regardless of how it got broken.

It will not be a problem. They have a no questions asked policy. If you get hassled try a different Sears store. I have never been asked what happened and a couple screwdrivers it was obvious that they were used as chisels.

My friend’s dad used a torch on a Craftsman wrench so he could get it bent and fit into the right place on an old JD tractor. Took it back to Sears and they gave him a new one no questions asked.

They'll replace it. Just for grins, about 20 years ago, I placed a 3/8" socket in a vice and commenced to beating it to death with a mini-sledge. When I was done, it hardly looked like a socket any longer. Sears replaced it without any hassles. Since then, I've legitimately replaced around a dozen tools that have broken or worn out.

I've twisted Craftsman 3/8" universal joint in two from using a 3/4" drive breaker bar plus adapters.

I brought what was left of it to my local Sears and they replaced it without batting an eye.

I took my dad's old breaker bar that he'd had for probably thirty years back to Sears when I broke it trying to get a spindle nut loose, and I'd had a four foot length of pipe on it as a cheater. No problem. Got a brand new one, and they thanked me for using their products.
I also had a set of sockets from Montgomery Wards when they were still in business. I broke my 19MM long socket about five times using it as a lug wrench on my VW. They replaced it every time...I finally picked up a 19MM socket and a 3/4" impact socket at their store (exact same price) and convinced them to let me have the impact socket for the exchange. Never had another problem with it.

Not only does my store replace them N.Q.A., they don't hesitate to upgrade my return if there out of what I had. I went in there with one of there $3 grab bin needle nose, broke em 6 months later. The sales rep told me to grab another pair off the shelf, when I informed her they were out, she told me to grab a pair of the $10 ones hanging on the rack Has happened to my grandfather many times.
