Need help with broken ignition
hey folks, I was trying to start my truck the other day and the key would not turn far enough to start, and it would not come out of the ignition. so being a redneck I beat on it with a BFH and got the key out, along with chunks of the tumbler set. my question is how do I get the whole little ignition part out so I can put a junkyard set in?

Did you break the key cylinder? Go get a new one from a parts store, they're not expensive. I don't remember exactly how to get them out, but there is some kind of pin that you need to press out somehow along with taking the plastic pieces off the steering column and also taking the 2 bolts out that hold the column up so it can drop down. That's what I did anyways.

i have a 83 f-150 4 wd automatic. within the past year i paid a locksmith to come to my truck and replace the tumbler. he did not have to drop the column. boss50 is correct about the pin...it is spring loaded and has to be pushed toward the tumbler to release the tumbler. the young locksmith refered to the process as peek and poke. there should be a peek hole where you can inset a small diameter allen wrench or maybe a drill bit of the correct length. then you poke the spring loaded pin and the tumbler pulls right out (it sure sounds easy!). the locksmith had trouble finding the peek on my truck and ended up sticking the poker underneath the cowling around the steereing wheel. buy the part first and you will know where the pin is you are looking for.

thanks alot guys, I seemed to remember a pin or something, unfortunately my fuse comes quickly resulting in a BFH being used quite often. I did call westbay and they have the complete assembly for 30 bucks.
