Subwoofer controller?

I got to thinking today, I know that I have seen amps with a dial control, where you control the gain from the amp, and you can put the dial, basically anywhere in the car(my roomie has this setup). Is there any way that I can do something similar to this without getting a different amp? How would I install something like this if it was possible?

Mostly your amp has to be built for it.

One way you can work around is (maybe) get a single post dual pot variable resistor. I'm not sure if the termanology (or spelling!) is correct there. But basicly with a regular variable resistor you get a 3 wires in. One tap and two leads, as you turn the **** on the resistor, or POT, the tap travels between each of the two leads, the farther from each lead the more resistance there is. If you just use on lead and the tap then you get a range of no resistance to the max of the rating on the POT (like 1.5K Ohms). A dual POT would have 2 taps and 4 leads, 2 sets of 3. Each set could be wired up on your line in to your amp and it would limit the volume going into your amp. This would not boost the amps volume, but if you turned the amps gain up then the POT would act like it was a gain.

Yeah, it is pretty much a feature of some amps. Rockford is well known for such a feature. Its called a remote bass ****.

For amps without such a feature, to make it worth while, have you considered getting an active crossover or a line driver? Either of these would alow some low end control from the front of the truck if mounted there.

Another, and probably better, idea would be to purchase an external bass enhancing product. Phoenix Gold offered a product called a bass cube, which served the purpose you are looking for. It would basically go inline with your RCAs and increase the bass at a given frequency which you would chose in alot of cases.

Hope this helps.

I use a Nakamichi EC-200. It allows control of each side of the crossover independently for crossover frequency and gain. You can find a datasheet on it at: http://www.geocities.com/p9019/nakam...ak_mobile.html. These are not new and may be tuff to find now, but very nice to have. Makes tuning a system easy.

Audio Control makes nice stuff. I always wanted to try an Epicenter. I have a home version they made, Phase Coupled Activator, awesome bass. It synthesizes a sub harmonic. Don’t know of any other product doing this. It’s Very effective.
