They are not bad castings and have a very good exhaust port as cast. The intake port is small at only 210 cc's or so compared to the older iron castings which are near 270.
There is not a bolt on head that is any better but porting your castings and adding headers will wake her up well.
Removing the air inlet silencer along with a bump in timing will also help. Adding a cam will help too but you must choose very carefully as the stock ecm is speed density and will not tolerate much in the way of increased power with out mods.
