Overdrive?

Hi all,

Does driving with the overdrive activated really change the performance or the car or miles per gallon under normal driving conditions. I turn it off because in my mind I think I am saving myself gasoline. What do you guys think?

Ummm...turning off the overdrive increases your fuel consumption. Engine revs and mpg are directly related.

I see your point and that makes sense. So then what is the point of having the overdrive there as an option? Thanks for the input.

It's for towing, and occasionally for going up a moderate grade where your trans wants to keep shifting from 3 to OD.

ah I see.

So for normal driving conditions (city/highway...no towing involved) should I drive with the O/D on or off?
