I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE A/C COMP. TURNS ON THE CLUCH US FIRING BUT THE PULLY IS NOT ENGAGING. IF I BUMP IT A LITTLE BIT IT WILL ENGAGE AND SPIN AROUND WITH THE COMPRESSOR BUT WHEN IT QUITS AND THE CLUTCH REENGAGES THE PULLEY WILL NOT REENGAGE.
DOES THIS NEED CHANGED? IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE W/O REPLACING THE COMPRESSOR?
ANY INFO IS APPRECIATED.
I removed the a/c clutch this spring and stoned and cleaned everything and removed the two shims between the clutch plate ant the splined shaft and put it back together and the A/C runs great.
This was only made possible from the great minds that are on this site!!!
Yes you can doit your self and it's not hard Follow the advice from horesman1. ensure you get a manual for it and it is made very simple. the clutches do wear out.
Menzo,
Did you change the whole clutch? I have a 97 F-150 and might have to do the same. Was it difficult at all and around how much did the ne clutch cost?
I Did Not Change Anything. I Removed One Bolt And Removed The Little Shims Inside Og The Splined Clutch Part. (they Look Like Little Washers).
I Cleaned Everythng With Oil And A Stone, And Put It Back Together.
Autozone Does Sell New Ones Fro $90.00 If It Does Not Work Removing The Shims.
Total Time Was 20 Minutes Max.
