I guess the best way to lift my front of my 78 is a 4" lift coil. I want the coil to be able to support a 460, a FAT winch bumper and a 12k warn winch. I have newer- less than a year old factory 460 HD coils Can I have the coils streched I paid $80 and would like to keep them if at all possible but I need like 4" of lift to make my truck almost level. I know I will need new shocks but what else will I need? Are the coils on 4wd F150 bolt in on my 2wd F250. Does a 4" coil really provide 4" of lift or is is like 3"? I need advise!
I have a really good spring shop in Waco He seems realling informative and honest. Can you heat them and strech them? otherwise I need a 4" coil that will work in my 2wd F250 and it looks like i'm SOL.
Thanks
Dustin
Dustin,
Ideally you'd want to buy a new set of coils. Honestly with the weight you'll have up front I'd look for a 6" coil. Between the 460, bumper, and winch you'll have about 500 extra pounds on your front end. You can get your springs stretched but they'll ride rough and won't last as long. You'll also need to look at an extended trac bar or a drop bracket for it. Check your brake lines too along with your steering setup.
I paid $150 for a set of 4" lift coils that were very heavy duty. The coil was about twice the diameter of stock springs. They are for all trucks 67-79 4x4. I think bronco graveyard sells them even cheaper. You might need a set or degree bushings also.
