Just got a F-350Sd,V10, 3:40 Diff, Long bed, Lariet, Daully,CC. Had 4 miles on it when I drove it out of the dealers lot.Has only 150 now.The miles I put on it are city. freeway mixed. It is cold here high's in the 20's (f) I really don't think the motor ever warmed up good. Got 8.5 MPG calculated. Now I did not buy this for good MPG.This is a Tow vehicle..95 % of the time it will be towing a camper..Got @ 10MPG on my last truck(Chebby) Will be a happy camper if I get that good with this big/powerfull V10..this is a sweet truck..Present camper is a TT @7,000 Lbs..very soon it will be a 5'er at @12.5K..what can I expect..Don't think I will look at the MPG's again till I hit 1,000 Miles.

Do a search and you'll find plenty of info on this matter. I have a F350 CC Long bed with 3:73 rear end and I tow about a 5,000 pound camp trailer with about 2,000 pounds of gear. I live at 5,000 ft elevation and regularly tow at higher elevations and mountain passes. I've gotten as good as 9-10, but average about 8 when towing this load. Around town I get about 10...maybe 11, and straight freeway driving with no load, 13 on a good day.
I have a F350 CC LB 4x4 with a 3.73 rear and tow a 7200 camper with a slide out. The reason I mention the slide out is that campers with slideouts tend to be highter due to the clearance necessary for the slideroom. Anyway, I get 10 to 11 most of the time with generally around town driving. Towing the camper to and from Virginia from Rhode Island last year, I got 7 mpg on the way down and close to 7.5 mpg on the way back. The way back had a lot less traffic. I can't really report on highway mileage as I haven't spent much time on the highway without the trailer. My truck has 7800 miles on it now. It had under 5K when we went to VA. I hope this helps.
You are absolutly correct..did not buy this for gas milage..bought it for a powerfull tow vehicle..just curious.Mine got 85 miles on it city driving and I am at 8.5 MPG. I know I will get 10 or better and I'm satisfied.
These 05 V10s are absolutely fantastic motors and my mileage is only slightly less than my 04 PSD.Compared to a PSD, look at this motor as having more drivability, a little less power towing , a lot more reliabilty and the part that is so hard to believe, it is almost 5000 bucks cheaper . For me that is my first 2 years gas .......FREE. The 40 bucks I'll save on every oil change I'll buy a good bottle of single malt Scotch, The money I save on fuel filters I'll buy some new tools, you get the picture, Take care, Wrenchtraveller
I'm surprised by so many people saying they're getting over 10mpg...
We've had our '05 with the 4:10 gears and King Ranch for about a month and a half and seen nothing better than 8mpg.
I wish we'd get more than 200 miles out of a 29 gallong tank but like it has been stated before it isn't a light duty truck and they don't advertise the gas milage because of that.
I think perhaps if they had I'd have thought twice, especially with gas over $2.00 a gallon.
UtChaz welcome to the site. Your KR should be giving you a little better than that. I am averaging around 11 city and highway. Have you tried different brands of gas. Outside of your mileage how do you like your truck? Wrenchtraveller
I have not one complaint with this truck. I've drove the older models with the V8 in them and knew they just wouldn't do, thats why we got the 10.
We have two girls in kids seats and it's nice to not have them fighting because they're right next to each other.
I read a few of the strings and have since switched to Cheveron for gas, it's only $.03-$.05 more than on base so it isn't too bad.
We're hoping the engine starts giving a few more miles per gallon because we're drive out and going to N. California this July.
We mainly bought it because the wife wants me to haul my jeep to/from trails so when she goes we're always sure we can get home... LOL
Silly women anyhow, not like she's ever walked.
When I bought my truck I got great mileage coming back NY. I was extremely happy with getting an average of 13mpg coming back. When I got home things changed. I drive mostly around town. It is a rare occurrence for the truck to run more than a mile before I have to stop for a light or stop sign. First few tanks got stuck in mid-7's to mid-8's. I did not seem to matter how much the trailer was on it or not. Finally it broke into the high-9's with a brand of gas I had not used before in it. It probably was not completely fair to compare, but it included a run of 50 miles or so on the highway, but the trailer was hooked to it at the time.
Since then (about 4k miles or so) it has done pretty good at times and average at times. It has never fallen back into the low 8mpg range again though. Mine like certain brands of fuel and does not like others. Mine does not like Chevron from local stations. Between that and Sunoco, I am not sure which is worse. I have gotten consistently better mileage out of Amoco and RaceTrac than anything.
My advice, experiment with brands of fuel. Not every truck is going to like the same thing. I know that sounds funny, but the numbers don't lie. What runs good in mine may not work for you. Of course the area probably has something to do with it too.

What brand of gas are you using? Sunoco and others have 10% alcohol in them which will lower fuel economy. When I use sheetz, I get 1-2 MPG less consistently. I am not sure about where you live, but in northern Va, we have a winter blend of fuel that also drops my MPG's.
In my gallery in misc pics there is a jpg of a spreadsheet with the first bunch of fill ups...

Marathon and shell are the only two Name brands that DO NOT include Alcohol in their blend.
Sheetz also does not use Alcohol/I never noticed a difference in MPG when using Sheetz..have not used it in the V10 yet..will keep an eye on it when I do.
