I have a 1998 Ford F150 4X4. The Heater/AC tempature blend dial on the dash moves however, all I get is Heat coming out of the vents in the truck. It appears this Heater/AC teampature control dial is not working.
I am a do-it-yourself type of person if this isn't to complex to fix. Can some explain how to fix this problem?
It sounds like bad blend door,it is very common with this trucks, I had the same problem, I had to replace Blend door, you can find plenty of threads about how to replace blend door.
Where/How do I find those threads on how to replace the blend door. If you have one can you cut and paste the information as a reply to this message. Thanks.
Before venturing into open heart surgery, be certain that the splines on the plastic temperature control **** aren't stripped. If they are, the blend door won't respond to the turn of the ****.
Assuming that the **** is okay, turn the system on to one of it's positions (Heat, A/C, etc.) and turn the **** from full hot to full cold a few times and see if you can hear the blend door moving around (might hear a faint "thunk" or "pop").
This past fall I could hear a faint clunk once in a while. I hit the dash down by the clunk and the dial was set to heat and then I started getting hot air out of the vents. This past sunday It got warm here in Missouri and I tried to run the Vent, AC or Max AC. I turned the tempature dial to cool and nothing happened the blower motor just blew hot air. When I turn the tempature dial it is not smooth. It appears to be dragging into various positions like gear dropping into a slot. I didn't hear any clunks this time. Right now I get heat out of the vents no matter where I turn the tempature dial.
Pull the **** off, and with a pair of needle nose pliers, try gently turning the shaft from one end of it's travel to the other, and see if the blend door wakes up.
BTW, the status of the blend door will not impact the feel or travel of the temperature control dial. If the dial feels odd while you turn it, the problem may be right there.
try the fix with the nail, if that doesn't work try this:
Here's a new method on fixing your blend door if you completely broke that piece that turns the door. http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~dmf/blenddoor.htm
