Change the gear ratio. some 4.6's came with 3.55 gears. try a 3.78 or 4.10 top end will suffer and maybe even MPG. but the low end will be much better. I changed my mustang from 3.08 to 4.10 and MPG improved by 1??? (Highway) in the city it went down because of lead foot'itis. I have just ordered a flowmaster Hushpower muffler for my wifes F150. $109 from ebay. If it sounds good and helps her truck I'll post info later.

Welcome to FTE. I do not have a 4.6, but I do have a chipped 5.4. I think the Superchips I have woke the truck right up! Yes, changing out the gears would help with the low end, but you are looking at $1800+ normally for that. For 349 or whatever the chips go for now, they are well worth it in my opinion. The truck not only shifts much better, but gets up to speed a lot faster, and generally runs better. Mind you, this is just on the 87 tune. The 91+ tune just makes the grin that much wider. A high quality catback system would also help the truck exhale better, which should make some more power.
