spout connector

when i went to check the timing on my 87 ranger 2.3 liter fuel injection, it said on the decal under the hood to disconnect the spout connector before timing. what is a spout connector and where is it located. none of the books that i have has anything about a spout connector. i'm i missing something right in front of me?

Look at the wiring harness off the distributor. You should see a 2 wire break off with a connector and a plug. The plug is the spout connector. With the engine off pull out the plug, turn on engine, set your base timing, shut down engine, and replace spout connector.

My son has an '87 but with a 2.9. His connector is around the center of intake manifold on the passenger side. Seems like a weird place to me but there it is.
