I'm considering an F250 Or Chevy 2500 crew cab 4WD shortbed. I'm leaning hard towards the F250. My friend just got an 05 Dinali 1/2 ton gasser. But I want the diesel. I know I'm on a Ford site but I want get some opinions. Which one is cheaper to chip, exhaust, lift, etc... Another friend has an 04 F250 with all the goodies and that thing hauls a$$!! Is the Chevy the same? Thanks, Air
Come on Bro, this IS a Ford site. You should have guessed the answer by now. I would say the Chevy will have more features due to the DINALI name, but for the price you pay you could own a dressed 1 ton crew cab diesel. Get a SRW 1 ton crew, with the friends here you will pay invoice or less and start planning the mods.
I agree with heavyassualt . Go drive them both a tell us which you would prefer . Or listen to all of us we already know which is better . This site has answered every question I have had . So when you buy a Ford you get the best FTE has to offer . And thats alot . Plus you can get one heck of a deal on a new ride from Bortel Ford .

I think he answered his own question in his next to last sentence
One of my brother firemen has a chevy pretty close to the same as mine and there is no comparison. I am not gonna bash chevy but my Ford drives better, rides smoother, has more power (pre-predator), and gets better fuel milage. We just got back from a 2250 mile road trip and he was always calling me on the 2-way radio saying he needed to stop for fuel almost a full quarter of a tank before I needed to. And this was with our cruise controls set at 75-80 mph and basically the same payload in the bed. I even have a full front end replacement brush guard and larger tires than him (285/70's, da chevy running 265's) and we both have the 3:73 rear diff. Still it's a nice truck and he is happy with it, which is all that should matter because he is making the payments.......but for my money FORD all the way.
Another view: The chev is a 12 year old design with the worst ergodynamics in the industry... According to me, my wife (deemed a reliable source) & Motor Trend magazine- IMO the Allison is stout (I've pulled a 900 mile load) but doesn't perform like the 6.0 TS. The Ford SD truck is clearly at the top of the industry- And there is very tough competition!!! Dodge is no sloutch either- But it is a Dodge
The Chev is IMO an overall stale design that simply hangs on because of it's sibling's sales success. In fact, GM has postponed their re-design from originally scheduled for 06 to either 07 or 08...Possibly even 09. Clearly the Escalades, Denali's, Yukons & Silverados etc, sell too darn well to warrant a re-design.
So the old (dog) 93 GM truck design lives on because the rich and famous buy too many Escalades
The 3/4 tone has been out for 5 years. The current 1/2 ton has been out since 99. The 3/4 ton has been out since 2000. Which makes Fords current chasis more dated then Chev's. Personally I think they both need to be revisited
The next redesign has been slated for the 08 model year and has been that way for 2 years now.
And just how does the Allison not perform like the TorqueShift? Granted it's never had a recall but don't hold that against it.
As far mods your gonna spend about the same. From the tracks I've been to the Duramax Allison combo reponds better to power mods then the current PSD TorqueShift combo. With that said if your gonna lift your truck get the Ford the SFA makes this chore quite a bit easier.
The Duramax equiped trucks seem to get better MPG also. With that said I think the Ford is a little better looking.
Perhaps I'm guilty of using the term "re-design" improperly- I will admit the sheetmetal is clearly a newer design-rather than stumble over the exact terminology.
As I stated, IMO pulling the same load, the Allison vs the Ford, the TS performed superior for me...And the chev performed pretty darn well. In fact, I intended to buy the Duramax until the 6.0 was released-
