hey
just ran across your post. As for you question I couldn't help you out with that, but I do have a question for u. What did your seat come out of. Is it a bench with a fold down arm rest? And how did your bed come out going with that guy off of Dallas? I need body work done and am contemplating Pat V. or that guy you took your stuff to.

I've got 15's on my truck, 16's are OK, but most of the trucks I've seen at shows etc, are running the 17's. I'm looking for a set of 17's right now. It's tough to find a nice rim because of the 5 lug 5.5 pattern. I think if you get a great deal on the smoothies and the lug pattern is correct. I'd go with the 16's. I believe the tire a little cheaper than 17's also. Anyone selling their Budnik or Boyd Coddingtons email me. LOL..

I'm running 15s with 205-70R15 tires on my '48. I wanted to go with a larger sidewall/tread tire, about a 21570R15, but it wouldn't fit in the rear fender spare mount slot. Of course we found that out after we had mounted up all four tires on wheels and then tried to load the spare...but that's another story... Anyway, on a stock truck the 15" slightly larger tire combo looks fine to me.

The fenders should be fine for just about any width you would normally want. What I was discussing was the spare mount in my rear fender. As you can see from my gallery, somebody before me cut into the left rear fender and mounted the spare there. Did a nice job, too, it was practically the only place on my truck that didn't have rust when we did the body work and paint! I did see a table once, I think on this website, of tire/wheel combinations that work in stock fenders. Anybody else out there seen it?

what would be the harm of using a 17 inch rim in those fenders?...would there be problems with turning? if i put big rims on it, i wouldnt go very tall tires, but probably not those little itty bitty slabs of rubber the "cool people" put on their escalades and rice burners...its a ways down the road, but ill have to think about it sooner or later

Fish was asking about rear fenders. A 17 inch rim isn't a problem as long as the overall height of rim/tire combo is reasonable. You're just taking away from the sidewall height to add it to the rims. On the otherhand, the F4's used the same fenders with up to 20" rims.
Figuring maximum width for front wheels is another matter as you've got to allow for turning. I can't help at the moment as I have the front fenders off my truck (pulled the engine for a little maintenance).
