Those grommets can be a pain in the a$$. You should check for wear on the lever that the push rod slides onto. If the lever end is worn or scored badly from not replacing the grommet when it's needed, it can wear out a new grommet fairly fast. The lever is replaceable, but it can be a pain to get it off the end of the pedal shaft. The lever is held on by a bolt and is pressed on when you bolted on.You also need to make sure you put the new one on in the same position because it can change the pedal travel to engage the clutch.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advice. The rod on the clutch is worn but also corroded. It didnt apear removeable so i put a set screw collar on it with a modified clip. drove it twice w/ no notice of problems, better clutch feel though. ive heard of the sheet metal tearing away. will my cheap trick accelerate this?
As long as you are not putting more pressure on the firewall, then you should be O.K.
There is a bolt that holds it on. I had fun when I replaced mine! Used pry bar to get it off. Goes on real easy though. I've also had to re-enforce the firewall on mine before it cracked too much. That was interesting to say the least.
Ohh no i did this before I posted and didnt see the bolt, thats what i meant. the fire wall is in good shape, suprisingly here in the rust belt. New trucks come with rust here. While ive got your attention, the original owner told me that the adapter between the tranny(t-19) and tsfr case kept breaking the ears off. bought it broke but instead of buying a new one i re-welded the ears very thick and had it machined no problems so far, but what would cause this
