97' F150 4x4 with towing package. Recently bought the 7 pin to 4 pin connecter to hook up my boat. I plugged in the lights to the trailer.. that are new led lights. I noticed that the right blinker and brake worked correctly. Running lighs also worked correctly on both sides.. The left side brake works. Blinker did not.... noticed a yellow wire that had beed disconnected under the rear bumper. Hooked it up and then the fun begins... both blinkers work, ...except when you step on the brake..blinker light stays on.When you release the brake.. the blinker begins working again. That happens to both blinker when the yellow wire is connected.. Even with the boat lights disconnected this will still happen with the yellow wire is connected.. Any guidance would be greatly welcomed> Thanks in advance...
Some of the converter plugs had a wire that needed moved to make all the lights work. Also I would check to see that the 7 pin is wired to standard. I have seen a few OEM plugs that were not wired correctly. Some leds need a resistor or diode (can't remember which) to work correctly.
If the LED's were sold to you as direct replacements, you do not need a resistor. This just cuts the voltage down to the LED's. A diode is used to have the current flow in only one direction, this is not required either, you are already using DC. On an AC circuit you would need a diode because LED's are polarity sensative, they have a positve side and a negative side. Just an FYI.
