I have just bought a 85 F-250 , and the truck wont go any faster than like 15 miles an hour, when you step on the gas it bogs and wants to stall ,TPS?? the truck will go through the gears if you can get it to coast fast enough....
also ,, the truck has different lug nuts front and back , the rear lugs are bigger, is this a F-350 rear or something like that. can I change the axle's out , or maybe the studs??? I would really rather have the same lug nuts front to back , because the rims I have from my old truck use the same nuts as the front, and they are special for the rims ......I really dont want to purchase new lugs just for the rear??? any ideas???
is it efi or carb?? try a carb rebuild and maybe check the timing chain position and ignition timing. If it is eec buy a $25 code scanner and see if you can pull anything out.
oh yeah the lug nuts. you can buy lugs that have the same thread size but different hex sizes. Take a lug grom the rear and see if it'll thread on the front. If it does they are all the same and you can just buy all lugs with the same hex size.
I have gotten the lug nut problem figured out. they are different from front to back ,, F-250 to F-350 ,,, so I ordered new lugs for the rear. Problem solved!!!!
As for the cutting out....I got a TPS from a junker,,, and it didnt make any difference, I also noticed that there was a leak on one of the emission tubes, and one of my buddies said that it could make the truck act the way I described?? I have a replacement part from the salvage yard and im going to change it regardless, cause I need to..
I also borrowed a code scanner from my DAD.... just those damn instuctions .... ARGGGGGGGGG... damn EFI ,,, why cant everthing be carburated,,,,lol...
ok ,,, well i changed the emission tube ,, and it make the exaust quiet,, but it didnt make anydifference with the running problem,,would the modual on the dist. cause this problem,, would the cat being cloged cause this ,, and how would i go about checking to see if the cat is bad,,, im still looking for answers,, any opinions would help... thanks
An ignition module can cause lost of problems if it is bad. The only way to tell if your convertor is clogged is to look in it. Without being able to pull codes to find any eec problems, just troubleshoot it as a lack of power problem. Check fuel filters, yes there are two fuel filters. Most people forget about the first filter, I bought an 86 with a 302 and found over an inch of crap in the bowl of the canister filter. Just initially check fuell system and ignition timing. Do you have any problems starting??
i thought it might be the module, but i couldnt get a socket in there to change it , I have bought the tool and plan to change it on monday, I also bought a canister fuel filter, but i had to fight with the thing to get the damn thing off, then the part store couldnt find the right one , eventually I told them to look a year newer and there it was, so i still have to change that. YOU said there was two filters, where is the second one?
well I made things worse, I changed the fuel filter, the module, and the tps , and now the truck wont even start, I reinstalled the dristrubuter on tdc on the #1 cylinder, so im not out on the timing... any ideas???
It may be your fuel pressure regulator that went bad. You may have carbon fouled your spark plugs so much, they won't fire anymore and that's why you can't start the truck. This has happened to me before.
