Generator Rebuild Parts source??

Hello...I am new to the board, but not to owning my 59 F-100...I have had this thing since 1992 when I bought it off a Sailor friend of mine for $250 not running...Anyways I look forward to getting to know everyone and appreciate such a place as this.

I am in need of a few sets of Brushes for my Generator "59 F100"

I have found a few varieties of them but not an exact match. They are the usual 2-wire carbons.

Also any links to other parts supplieres for these Vintage Trux would be appreciated as well. I have always used Sacramento Vintage Ford but they do not have what I need this time.

Regards,

Brad

Welcome to FTE, Brad! There's a bunch of guys around here with 59's like yours. I'm sure somebody will chime in soon. In the meantime, try the search function and look through all the old threads. Lots of great information storehoused there. This is the best site I've found to learn about these old trucks and share stories with some good dudes.

Rob,
Thanks for the welcome...Good to hear that your exp. has been posative here.

I did a search earlier for "Generator brushes" and netted nothing...Then tried Generator and I got tired of scrolling through threads that advised an alternator swap/upgrade...haha....I would actually like to go that route some day but now is not the time.

BTW...I did find me a few sets of Brushes at my local NAPA so I am good to go. I figured it would be a no go in a reg. parts store, but evidently not. ALthough the parts counter person was as surprised as I was that they had them...haha

Cheers,

Brad

Brad,

There are several vendors that have the brushes designed for your generator. Sounds like you already found some that might work so I won't go into the part numbers and vendor availability on those specifically.

As far as a list of vendors that support our older trucks, there are a few around on various member web pages. If you want, try out the list on my Club FTE site - Earl's World Parts Vendors Links. Enjoy and welcome aboard!

Welcome to FTE! Make sure you post your VIN info in the thread at the top of this forum titled "attention 57-60 owners"

I had the same problem with brushes, they changed sizes in 59 I believe. They got smaller and the older more common size just won't fit. I bought nos ones on the second try. You might as well replace the bearings(check ebay, the old bearings 57-58 will fit newer housing) while your at it and at least clean the armature.

Stick around, -4speed
