Weight on the tailgate?

The last time I owned a pickup, the tailgate stops were made of hinged thick metal. I see my F150's tailgate stops are thin black cables. Will they still support a fair amount of weight? I was leary to even stand on my gate...they look cheesy.

When loading a TON of bricks into the bed. They had to rest the pallet half in the bed and half on the tailgate, so that they could move the forklift out. So they couold push the load in.

I have supported 500lbs on my tailgate, and had no problem with the cables.

I've broke them before with about 560 pounds of cement (7x80lbs) on the tail gate. What you've got to watch is bumps and dips because they multiply the G's. i.e. a good dip might cause 3 G's, and for a split second You've got 1680 pounds on the thing. That's what happen to mine, and good luck finding a replacement for under $400 plus new cables.

Sorry I should have specified that I did not drive my truck with this weight on the tailgate, it was while I was parked and loading the truck.
