I would appreciate suggestions on which heads to install on my newly-prepped '86 5.0 block. The heads from this engine are # E6SE. I also have a pair of 302 heads # D8O6. Can larger valves be installed in either of these heads? I would like to use one of these pairs (with their larger chambers) to keep compression "reasonable". The pistons are KeithBlack Pop-Ups #116030's; the camkit will be compcam's K-31-234-3(per compcam's recommendation); and the efi system is being replaced with a "performer" intake and 600cfm carb, and headers. My goal is to put together a peppy little street-engine for my '81 F-100 p/u.
Thanks! BFACE in Savannah.
You can safely install 1.94 intake and 1.60 valves in either of those heads. If I only had a choice between the 2 sets of cylinder heads you have, I'd probably use the E6SE head due to improved flow over the older D8 casting. If I can remember, the E7TE is suppose to be a good head. They should be plentiful in salvage yards. They go for about 75 bucks a set here.
I have a early set of 289 heads here with 1.94/1.60 valves. You shouldn't have any problems at all.
