99 F-150 electric door lock works the first time but if you try it two more times it cliclks but will not move either lock. wait a few minutes and it will work agian same as before. Anybody got any ideas
When I got my '99 F-150 I had similar problems. Nothing as wierd as the locks working one second and messing up the next (mine just flat out didn't work), but I would think the overall problem is the same. I just had to get a new actuator for the lock that wasn't working. I think it was around $50 or so for the part plus paying to have it done. If you have problems on both doors it may be the switches that need replacing.
It sounds like it is your lock actuators. They get old, worn or abused, and they only have the strength to work for once or twice then die out. Let em rest and they work again for a shot or two. Not too expensive, but kind of a pain to replace.
sounds to me like you're tripping a breaker (don't know if locks have breakers like headlights do). If there's a short somewhere, you're likely getting enough juice to activte the locks once, then the circuit trips. These breakers are usually self resetting...
I had the same problem, replaced the door lock actuator and it fixed the problem.. The actuator has a clip that secures it to the door frame, you will probably break the clip on the current actuator when removing it..Not to worry, just be careful with the new one..
I got a similiar problem with my 98 Supercab. This forum help me to possible pinpoint toward lock actuators. I didn't get around to replace it yet. It didn't really bother me as the problem is intermittent and is noticable during colder months, as for warmer months, it seems to work more often than not. And my being over 6 footer, I can reach to unlock the passenger door when needed. I haven't gotten to the point to get annoyed enough to have it straighten out yet.
