40 is louder, sounds like a good deal. I have $300 in mine. 3.5" tips. All welds or clamps?

I haven't heard them on the F150, but on my last truck (02 Chevy hd 2500) I went with the 70 series flowmaster and single 3.5" out and it was awesome. It had a good sound outside the truck and was throaty when on the throttle but was quite enough in the cab to carry on a conversation without having to yell. I have the 40 series with 2.5" duals on my 67 bronco with a pretty healthy 347 and I can be heard 1/2 mile away when I get on it hard. FWIW, I guess it depends on what you want but I don't think I want my $40,000 truck to be so loud you can't hear yourself think in the cab.

I have the 40s on my 05 f150 and to me its not that loud but i'm the type of person who ran straight pipes on my 78 mud truck and headers with glasspacks on my muscle car.

its sounds ok i don't duals its just 1 single exhaust. I can hear it in the cab around 1600 to 2000 rpms it doesn't bother me at all or other people who are with me.

I have the Flowmaster 40 series SI/DO on my 5.4 XLT Screw. I really like the sound - loud when you get on it - barely noticable when cruising. I paid $365.00 installed - all welds with 3.5" chrome tips. If you are worried about too loud, I don't think it is too bad. Good luck!

I posted here the other day about the Flowmaster Hushpower 2. Worth every penny. it's like the old glas pack's. hold it to a light and you can see through it. I went away from the 40 series because they resonate very badly on my mustang.

The 40 series to me are not all that loud unless you get on it. Carrying on a conversation is not bad either. Cruising down the highway at 70, you can just barely hear it until you step on it to pass a slower chevy I make drive 3 hours to school and back home and I'm not annoyed at all by the sound...in fact I could even bear to have it be a bit louder.
