I was under the truck yesterday checking my u-joints, or trying to. The u-joints all seem tight. I noticed no lateral movement at either joint.
I noticed that where the yoke slides into the tranny extension (2WD), that I can push the drive shaft up and down and side to side. The movement I'm seeing is within the tranny, not at the joint itself. Should there be movement? Does this indicate a worn yoke? Can this cause vibration at highway speeds?
A little movement at the yoke is fine. You usually feel a vibration at take off when a u joint is going bad. When a u joint goes bad, it starts to lock up.
