New to diesels.....
I recently purchased a 1993 F-250, 7.3, 4x4, w/ 180k miles. I'm also new to 4x4's. It has a few minor problems, but the price was RIGHT. I hope these don't sound like dumb questions. Of the problems, you have to really push the clutch {stomp might be a better description} to engage the ignition. Is there an adjustable switch ? It also has a good amount of black smoke {I'm assuming unburnt fuel} when accelerating between shifts. Could this be a bad injector, or injector pump? Also, I seem to be having problems getting the auto hubs to engage. I've never had a 4x or diesel, so any answers to any of my questions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, you're at the right place to get answers about your PSD. There's got to some adjustment for your clutch, I'm just not sure how to do it but somebody will jump in here to help you.
On the smoke issue, how cold is it? How clean is your fuel filter? Are using any fuel additives like Power Service or Standyne?

Hi Tex and welcome to the world of oil burners. If your truck is in fact a 93 model year and you can see the injection pump and the individual fuel lines to the cylinders, you need to visit the pre power stroke forums for the type of engine you are running. But black smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel and probably due to an adjustment on the fuel pump or a dirty air intake filter. The safety switch is probably out of adjustment on the clutch pedal up under the dash or the firewall is flexing on you. 4x4 hubs, i dont know that one.
