Just rebuilt my 460 in my 79 4x4, and have everything hooked up like mallory says and it will start fine but it just wont shut off, just read where we need a diode to solve the problem, and was wondering which wire i need to tap this in to, if anyone could help that would be great, thanks. Jim
Sometimes the wire that is hot with the ignition on that goes to the back of the alternator, if you are using a single wire alternator. So the battery (+) does not feed backwards through the "I" wire. Depends on your set up.
Though you said "mallory" so I would be inclined to think you did an ignition/dist. upgrade? In that case it might be the (-) wire on the coil.
In any case, I would first turn down my timing towards TDC, at least for a quick fix.

I think he has two possiblities. The ignition has 12 volts on it all the time, not letting it shut off(what I thought he meant), or the idle is set to high and it's "dieseling".
