"Dyno" Don Nicholson waxed everybody in in his 427 SOHC powered Pro Stock 72 Ford Pinto. How cool is that?

I think 1977-1979 Ford Thunderbird was awesome looking car. Ford LTD was also really cool.

SVO Mustang and Thunderbird Turbo Coupe

A few "collectible" cars from the 80's I know about:

1984-86 SVO Mustang. They had a 2.3L intercooled turbo 4. T-5 tranny. Factory Koni adjustable shocks. 4 wheel disc brakes. Cool cars. Have a nice hood scoop on them. Horsepower ranges from 175-215ish depending on the year. I think they produced under 10,000 cars total.

1983-88 Thunderbird TurboCoupe. 2.3L turbo 4. T-5 tranny or automatic. 83-86 cars are non-intercooled. 87-88 cars are intercooled with cool hood scopps and have a more bird-like nose. 87-88's have optional electronic climate control, standard 4 wheel disc ABS brakes, automatic ride control, automatic lamps, keyless entry, 6 way drivers and passenger power seats. Quite a bit of features for an 80's car. Turbo birds are pretty easy to come by.

I have a side-bet with myself that the Country Squires/Colony Parks from that era might be worth a buck or two down the line- especially the very few nice ones left on the planet.

Good choices.

2 door or wagon fairmonts coupes are my favorite to look at or maybe a hatch or fastback not sure about those. They are FOX body cars like mustangs, cougars and thunderbirds (Lincoln Mark VII...) so suspension exhaust fuel tanks are similar. 302, aod and 8.8 rearends I think are easily swapped between these...In my dreams...

Granadas and Monarch 2 doors if done tastefully can look good. I guess I'm thinking more in terms of dark age styling with modern ad ons.

Seen a real sharp black/grey Fairmont 2 door at a local car show last week. At least someone is catching on. Just happens to be a good sounding 80 Fairmont for sale in the local paper with a 255 V8 with a shift kit and a few goodies on it. Can`t imagine a 255 being too exciting, a 302/351 would be alot nicer to smoke a ricer!

70s and 80s collectors cars

To me there are LOTS of decent rides from this era, and thankfully for me, they're usually very reasonably priced!

My favorites from Ford are:

1972 - 1976 Thunderbird (I've got a triple black beauty of a 1976 that I love)
1977/78 Thunderbird (correctly optioned these are terrific and not expensive at all)
1978 LTD Landau or Country Squire (yeah I know, but there's something special about the last of the REALLY big Fords, same goes for the Mercury)
1976 Mercury Cougar - really big and rare
1976 Lincoln Mark IV - last of the Bourdinat styled Marks.
1977/8 Mark V - the DeLaRossa Mark, pretty and last of the 460 powered cars (1979 went to 400 for the top engine)
1976 Ford Elite - same as Cougar above, when was the last time you saw one?
1982 Mustang GT - the car the brought back performance in a dreary time!
1976 Maverick Stallion - Ever see one?
-Doug
