I know you guys have heard this all before, but I have had it with my POS '03 EB. 2 weeks ago the SES light came on, codes read banks 1 and 2 lean. They fixed it (they found the PVC valve cover loose..so they say) and cleared the codes. Just today the light came back on. The truck has almost 35,000 miles on it. Never in my life have I experienced such bad luck with a new vehicle. Could they have not fixed it properly 2 weeks? And the gas mileage I'm getting is worse than ever. Maybe I should switch dealers?

what is the code this time?, i got an 02 expy, and found what i found on this board bad gas mileage could be a coil missin', it seems to happen alot with the expy

Not sure yet. I have an appointment to bring it back in on Thursday. I do have a friend that is a mechanic that has one of those code machines. I'll have him hook up the truck to his machine so that I'm prepared when I bring it back to Ford.

The only problem with the dealer or the truck? LOL Well with the truck I've had the rear end rebuilt (?) (whatever they did to remove the whine above 40 mph), had the brakes replaced because of the dust, had an A/C issue, the rear-end seal leaking, the SES light on (and again) and the infamous nibble when driving 70 mph. To me, these are all problems that a 5 year old car should have LOL I have a 2000 Rodeo with 95K miles on it doesn't have any problems!! (knock on wood LOL).
The dealer problems is a whole other different post and I won't bore you with it LOL

THe only problems ive had with my 03EB is the brake dust, crappy conti tires, and the side mirror issue. Maybe b/c its only got 37k miles... Hmm. Did I just say "only"...Anyways, with all these complaints coming forward, I really wish I could get out of my Expy...
Well I brought the truck back in today. I demanded a loaner car and they gave me one. It was the same codes (P0171 and P0174) again. They said it was my fuel filter. I honestly thought my mechanic changed that already this past summer but I was wrong (the schedule didn't call for it at that time). So at this point I was 4K miles late (My truck has 34K miles and the book calls for the filter to be changed at 30K). Why Ford didn't figure out that the fuel filter was bad 2 weeks ago when they had my truck is beyond me.
Anyway, when they called me to tell me it was filter, she started telling me how much it will be for them to fix it since it's not a warranty issue. I told her don't touch it and I'll come get the truck. She said I couldn't because they cut the filter. Apparently when they removed the filter, it was so clogged that sucking out the build up wasn't enough so they HAD to cut it open (??). At this point I'm fuming because they had no right to destroy it. So my husband called and told the service rep that they are putting on a new filter and that we're not paying for it and to have the service manager call him back. In the meantime, my husband said to me that he'll tell them that he'll pay them $75 for the work/filter and that's it. Turns out the when the manager called back, they fixed the truck free of charge.
And finally when I went to pick up the truck, on my receipt it said "Because of the above service we will no longer service this vehicle" LOL I guess I can't go back there again oh well

Have you guys heard of the recall or investigation on the cruise control and brake master or slave? I think I was listening to the radio and heard it. Has anyone experienced it? I really don't mean to take over this thread, it just popped into my head as I was reading.
Ammie; I had all the problems you've stated here and more. By luck my sales guy moved to another dealer and invited me to switch. The new dealership has been fantastic, they've even fixed some of the mess the first dealership did.
Dave.Brady - I think the recall is for the 2000 expy's. I think the cruse control gets hot, then brake fluid drips on it and causes a fire.

Yeah, I'm definitely changing, but not because they won't service my truck anymore but because I'm leaving on my own.

I'm trying to imagine how bad your relationship with the dealership was to have them cut you off like that. Whatever you do going forward, it would really be to your benefit to try to get a working relationship with the next service department. You also need to rethink where you're buying fuel (that crud in the filter came from somewhere you know).
Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself here as we have a 03 EB w/26K miles. The only issues I have are a funky passenger side mirror reverse tilt "feature" and cheap (thin) rubber seals along the doors. Closing doors and hatch on this truck sounds cheap - they kinda bang instead of a solid "clunk".
EDIT - oh and the brake dust sucks too. I'll be springing for some upgraded pads (not the Ford ones that's for sure) and new disks soon.
Anyway what I wanted to say is the folks here with problems represent a very very small segment of the total 03+ Expedition population. If your neighborhood is anything like mine then you probably have 4-5 Expeditions within a block of your home. None of my neighbors, nor I (knock on wood), have had any real problems to speak of. Sure the tires suck but they can, and should, be replaced. Face it these trucks are big and loaded with gizmos that can fail. All cars have issues, some more than others. You want some real pain buy a Land Rover. Even Mercedes-Benz these days is having real quality control issues. I feel for you guys with recurring problems, maybe a dealer change is in order. Frankly, I would never recommend a dealership for repairs. I go to a local independent shop for all my vehicles. Just my .02.
