Fuel Leak

Hey guy's and gal's. I've got this anoying fuel leak in the "V'
of my engine(97' PSD). I've wiped it down a couple of weeks
now but it still seems to collect just in front of the fuel pump and to the rear of the fuel pump. I've tightenet up the supply
and return rubber hose clamps going to and from the filter to
the pump but still can't pinpoint the leak. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
Thank's,
Bill

Welcome to the forum, Bill!!
If your leak appears to be in/around the fuel bowl, it might be something as simple at the water drain valve not being closed properly. There are some fuel lines that lead to the heads, too. Make sure those fittings are tight and leak free. Those are the simple things. There are also some O-rings under the fuel bowl that can/will go bad on you as well.
Good luck.

Hey thank's Quadzillia, I think I will pull the Fuel bowl and
get a good look at what's going on underneath it. I wasn't
aware of orings under it. I have the Ford manuals so it should
show those parts. At today's fuel prices can't afford any fuel
leaks right, especially here in Nor Cal. Thank's to for the welcome.

Bill,

Please post what you eventually find. I have the same type of leak but have yet to clean it down to try and pin point its source. I am sure it's diesel at this point and have ruled out the HPOP and the turbo pedestal o-rings. There sure is a lot of clutter in that area making it difficult to see anything!!!

Okay Jeff, I'll be sure and post what I do find. Yea there is alot of clutter in that area. I even took the Turbo compressor side crossover tubing off and ran it for a few minutes with it all wiped down, but whever the leak is it's slow.Definitely raw fuel though.

I had a similar problem this last fall with my '97 psd. Turned out the fuel pump was worn out and leaking through a small weep hole in the very bottom of the pump. A place that is really hard to get a look at even with a small mirror. Once I removed the pump I could really tell the weep hole was the source of the leak. New pump and four months later, no fuel in the top of the V any more, no more problems. I replaced the flexible fuel lines connecting the pump at the same time. The old ones had small cracks on the outside. Cutting out the old ones made removal of the pump easier anyway. I guess I would expect to replace a mechanical fuel pump after 120,000 miles or so... those things wear out

Wow, okay thanks fridge. It dosen't say anything in the Ford manuals about a weep hole in the pump but that sure seems to
be the area it might be comming from. I removed the fuel filter to-day (man what a job) and replaced the short hoses to and from the filter to the pump. I also cleaned that nylon filter screen which
im sure glad I came across as it was completely plugged. I'll see how it goes this week....may have to buy a new fuel pump. Hope I can get a out of stae pump that dosen't have the pulse dampner on
it. I'll keep you guys posted. Thank's,
Bill

I had a buddy with a fuel leak at his filter housing, come out to be one of the hard lines going into the housing. It was filling up his valley and running down the back of the engine on to the ground.

There was a rubber seal that he had to replace where the line nut screwed to the housing.
