Fellow Ford Fanatics: I am searching for information on various devices that I keep hearing about, two in particular: The Fuel Atomizer 2000 by Wyoming Instruments (www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com) and the Platinum Gas Saver (no web site but ph. # 1-). I know much of this stuff must be junk, and perhaps I'm on some "Grail" quest, but I was wondering if any of you folks could direct me to a website or other resource that provides unbiased evaluations of these kinds of devices. Is there some back issue of Consumer Reports? Any information or direct experinces with any such technology would be really appreciated. Thanks for any help!

Hello everyone,

I'm going to try out the Wyoming Instruments' "Fuel Atomizer 2000"... It's worth the gamble for me...

I'll post the results here.

Wish me luck!

Good luck. Idle curiosity. How much does this thing cost?

LAST EDITED ON 14-Jan-01 AT 05:02 PM (EST)[p]Why not just flush your money down the toilet? This device is a crock. Answer one question: if it atomizes fuel, then how come the fuel injectors don't stop working (they can only pump liquids, not atomized air/gasoline)?

The feds have mandated 80 mpg test vehicles (GM is closest now with 79.6) and in a few years, 80 mpg production cars. They spend 100s of millions of dollars in research to squeeze more from the gas yet somehow they overlooked 4 hicks in Wyoming working out of a shack who have a miracle device? Please..... think about it.... it just doesn't make sense.

Why do you think they do not sell the product? Instead you pay $200 do become a "club member" and you get a "free" atomizer with your membership. It gets them around a bunch of liability problems.

If you buy this thing, I got some great beach front property in Arizona for sale. :-)

Amen to that , The list of these so called Mpg enhancing items is as long as the night is dark . I notice a lot of these hacks aim their stuff at Canadians because of the higher fuel costs there . $300 would be better spent keeping your vehicle in tune & running properly .

Ken,

It is clear where you stand on the issue... and, I am more than willing to acknowledge that you may be completely right. I also firmly believe that you are entitled to your opinion.

I'm not looking for a shoot out on these things, but, I've also got my views on it, supported by the stories of some personal friends and family members that have owned devices that have delivered exceptional fuel economy. In anycase, I recognise that it is a gamble... a gamble that I am willing to risk. You see I burn about $6000.00 cdn in my truck every year... so, to gamble $300.00 bucks is worth my while... even if I only saw a 10% increase it would be paid off in 6 months. The local dealer of these devices swears by them and promises a 60 day satisfaction guarrantee. Even assuming I couldn't get my money back... which, I admit, could happen, I'd give it a try.

He did tell me that he was unable to get a truck similar to mine to show an improvement, so, I am truly gambling... please don't publicly ridicule me for this quest to have the best of both worlds.

Like I said earlier, it is my intention to share my experiences on this sight... If you would rather that I don't and keep my findings to myself... It's your forum... I'll respect your wishes.

Sincerely,

Perry

Paul,

My truck is tuned and running perfectly... synthetic lube front to back... there is not a drip to be found anywhere. There is a Banks Power Pack on it, and a power sunroof. It is also fully set up to run on propane with a computer controlled system... I take my truck seriously and it gets what it needs... so please don't make comments that suggest that I should get a tune up.

You didn't answer the questions I asked, answering them will go a long way towards knowing if you're making the right choice:

1. If it atomizes fuel, then how come the fuel injectors don't stop working? Fuel injectors inject liquid fuel, not atomized gas.

2. Why do they sell you a club membership instead of the actual product? Its because if they do, they aren't liable for meeting the claims.

I'm not ridiculing you. I'm ridiculing the product and shooting their claims full of holes. The device is a rip-off, pure and simple. If you want to increase your milage, open up the intake and exhaust systems, change the gearing on the axle, drive the speed limit and get low rolling resistance tires.

Just look at their web site, does it look like a professional operation? Again, I'm ridiculing them, not you. If they were for real, they'd have some good venture capital backing them with a professional operation. You can post your results here, provided ALL things are equal, ie, tune up, spark plugs, driving habits, tire pressure, routes driven, etc. And provided that you have detailed gas/mileage logs from before and after. Don't just post that you're getting better mileage, show proof. We need evidence, not a placebo.

Boy it sure is tempting to try some of the devices. Ive come real close. It finally dawned on me that you cant get blood from a turnip. I also came to realize that they prey on the fact that Most(not All) don`t have a clue when they need to do what to when on there cars. YES 25% increase in milage sounds great ...Till you know that the last oilchange/ tuneup / aircleaner ,Proper Air Presure in tires you have done was... 11 months ago...Maby!!

There are just some things that work fine in concept as they are.
Trying to replace one item in the system of 10 or 12 Can end up having no effect...
If the device has no EPA certification its JUNK!!
Will they let you install it and pay for it in 30 days.. If it works as advertized.. Not many companys will ...Even Legit ones.

Perry , This is my final response , Ill let you decide . I didnt say that your truck was not properly tuned & in good running order , My suggestion was that the $300 would best be spent on the trucks ongoing maintenance , just the normal items that need attention from time to time .

Ken,
I'll answer the fuel injector question for him. We had a salesdroid (I decline to mention what company he was with to avoid any hassles) in the shop a few months ago trying to sell these atomizers to us for our class 8 diesels. He left a stack of brochures about 1/4 inch thick and a test atomizer for us to use for 30 days. They claim their product works by magnetically re-aligning the molecular structure of the fuel for a "More Even Burn", hence the "Atomizer" nickname. Oh wow man! It's a shame I didn't think of that.
These trucks run regular routes and have their fuel usage calculated right down to the bugs butt including idle time, pump time and miles driven. After using his wonder gadget there was absolutely no change in fuel consumption. At least the mileage did not drop so it was only a waste of time. We did learn that it worked pretty good though for magnetizing screw drivers.
