My truck is bone stock.Towing my 8000# trailer is there any way to hurt my motor at wot.Sometimes going uphill I just punch it all the way.
As long as you see any Dodge's you run up on, fast enough to get into the binders! the motor and front of the truck should be OK. Sorry, couldn't resist....
There have been reports by some that stock trucks (at least early 03 models) could exceed 1300 degrees F pre-turbo exhaust temperatures when pulling load.
Hopefully you'll get more detailed information than I have.

I got one of those early 03's and hadn't heard that yet.
Sadly mine was one that stock....I saw 1350.....scared the poop out of me....it was also a rocket....It was easy to achieve that temp, pulling big loads on 11k mountains.
However with gauges it is no problem. Just have an educated right foot and you will be fine.
I guess WOT is the key! With the latest flash, if I do a WOT, I get lots of black smoke, just like a Predator. I wonder if Ford didn't come up with the same alogrithms as Diablo.
HMMMM, my 04 still won't blow the smoke like that. I got the latest flash, definitely more power and I can get a little puff out of it if I take off from a dead stop to WOT, but nothing like "lots of black smoke". Oh well, I guess I should just be glad that it DOESN'T smoke, especially like some we have all heard of when cold, etc. I really don't believe that a stock tuned engine is going to run hotter than it can handle, 1350 is acceptable, so if that's as hot as it will go then I would not worry. Just hope that there isn't something wrong that will pour more fuel (failed injector) in that would really cause an over temp condition b/c not even the PCM monitors EGT. I just wonder sometimes why we couldn't get "real gauges" and pyro's, etc as an option from Ford. I mean, they offer a sunroof and leather seats, but not accurate gauges for people who "work" their trucks, just an idea to those who may read this and could somehow help.
I've got an #8000 Travel Trailer (rv) and on a level road doing 60 mph with no winds, my EGT runs around 1000, stock truck. WOT up a 7% grade the EGT levels off at 1225 or so, doing around 60 mph. Without towing on a level road with no wind, the EGT follows the speed X 10, so at 60 mph it is 600, 70 = 700 etc. I am considering getting a CAT back MRBP system to hopefully cool things off a bit.
I was wondering about buying the 3 gauge pillar for my truck...The only thing that bugs me is when i do have to bring my truck in for service...and they see all the gauges, aren't they going to think i'm modifying the vehicle....Wouldn't ford want to know why i would need a EGT gauge unless i was racing it.....

If you are stock, let them wonder all they want to its no crime to watch the performance of your truck under the premice that you like to know how it performs under varing conditions
