ignition switch rods
1997 F 350 PSD.I have to replace the 2 piece plastic rods that go between the ignition key cylinder and the electric ignition switch. I assume dropping the column down or complete removal is best. Any other tricks i need to know? Temporarely i just removed the electrical switch and i start the truck just moving the metal tab. Gotta wait till it gets a little warmer out before i tackle the column removal.

You will have to remove the column and disassemble to repair this. I've never had to replace the actual rods but I have done lots of actuators on those, that's the horseshoe shaped piece that goes between the lock cylinder and the rods. The get sticky and will break after some time. A good experienced tech will usually take about 3 hours to repair.
