Is there any way of geting the brass screw out of the hfcm once you have rounded the edges off it? My truck has 32,000 miles on it and i don't think it has ever been changed. Can you buy it separately? HELP Thanks
use an easy out, you may have to drill a little. Use the bigest you can or drill alittle so you can use a small one that will get more of a bite, but don't break it off, it may require you to remove the front drive shaft. P.S. O think it is metric 6mm allen head so a standard allen wrench will strip it out.
When mine stripped I was still able to get it out with the 6mm by applying a lot of pressure directly toward the screw. I used one hand to hold the allen directly and firmly in place, then torqued with the other hand. If you get it out I bought 2 at the dealership for a little of 6 dollars each.
If you have only 32K on your truck, take it to the dealer and tell them it's broken. You can't get the plug out to perform the required maintenance. Ford improved the part so it wouldn't break like that any more, so they know it breaks like this anyway. In my case, they ended up replacing the entire manifold on the side of the HFCM under the "light stays on" TSB because it's a lot easier to do that than to try to get that old plug out of there. The new manifold came with the steel plug, and I've been a happy easy-drain camper ever since. (I'll be even happier the day I can buy the lever-equipped HFCM and install it instead!!)
