rebuilt 302 questions, e303 cam ect....

just rebuilt a 302 for my 95 ford 4x4, I used a E303 roller cam, 9.5 to 1 flat top teflon coated pistons and have just installed it in the truck. Everything else except for the exhaust is stock. I was wondering if anyone else has used this cam and what they set the timing at after unplugging the spout plug. It was running great and now its idling erratically. It runs great, then it runs bad, then it runs great, then it runs bad ect........The other engine had 230,000 miles on it and was knocking on cold start up and had very little power but it ran great and I am using all the same sensors, intake, ect. and didn't change any of that. Other than that its got alot of power and it sounds great. Its getting fustrating. any ideas?

Is it a Mass Air truck? If not, that is likely you're problem. Either convert to mass air, or get a custom chip made. performance cam + speed density = bad running.

Okay, make sure the O2 sensors are working. If it's just dumping off the manifolds then the computer can't read the mixture from the exhaust stream.

the exhaust is the same as what was on the other motor and it ran fine. I have yet to check the O2 sensor I just assumed it was fine since the other engine ran great other than being worn out and knocking in the morning till it got oil.
