Very true. I always kick myself for not buying a used Limited over my used XLT. Cost less to buy the top of the line model (used of course) over trying to upgrade.

well i should have but it was all that there was at the time and since it was in my budget that is what i took but now i want to get into the seriuos mudding i need to get it to a 4x4 and since i have heard about all of these people upgrading to it then i want to and do you all know if there is sometime of part that i can make it to where i can be climbing 45-60 degree slopes or will it all be the same in the end and will i have to tear it all off just to make 4x4 cuz i really want to end up in some pits and what about the engine it is a v6 will that have to change also just so i can have some fun????

The word budget does go well with what you are trying to accomplish. I really think that you would be beter off trying to find something that is already 4WD unless you happen upon a totally demolished 4WD for next to nothing that you could swap everything out on. I've got a 96 Explorer Sport that I bet I could not sell for more than $3500.00 (150K miles). It's might you at least $1000.00 for a good transmission. If the vehicel was goiong to be worth something when this was all finished, mayber you do it. But that's not the case here and you are going to be tearing it up anyway. Find a cheap 4WD is my advice.
