Smile Throttle sticks

Hi everybody, I am new here and hope to learn soem things. I have a 89 Ford F-250, 351 5spd, extended cab. When you push the peddle down a quarter of an inch, it jumps to around 2000RPM. You can't seem to find a medium between idle and 2000. When you are driving and let off the gas, the rpm will hold there for a few seconds. This makes shifting a pain. Probably just annoys me more than anything else, but the rpm jumping between shifts drives me nuts. Is this the throttle position sensor? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

I had the exact same problem on my 88 F150 302. I replaced the throttle cable with a new ford piece for about $70 and 15 min. It solved the problem and I had fantastic throttle response with the new cable.

I will keep that in mind to, although it feels more sensor related than bad cable.
