Fuel Filter

Well my truck is still throwing up code 41, which is lean reading through the o2 sensor. Today my truck started to surge, not at idle but while driving. Could a cloged fuel filter cause this? There is only one on an 88 302, right? I have replaced it when I first bought the truck but I just want to be sure that it is the only one.

You could be correct, have gotten some inferior fuel, and trashed the filter or the fuel pressure regulator is going on you. As anaylitical as you are, have you checked fuel pressure. Just a thought.

Well, to tell you the truth, I have no idea how to check the pressure. Although, when I put my new engine in about 8 months ago I did replace my fuel pressure regulator.

You know the schraeder valve on the fuel rail? Autozone will generally rent or loan you a gauge to confirm the fuel pressure, yeah I know you're not gonna smoke when you do it, just your avatar, ya know. You should see around 38-45 psig at the rail if I am correct. Also pull the regualtor vacuum line and see if you detect any gas (edit afterthought).

The schraeder valve is the thing on the drivers side rail that looks like a tire stem right? Also, what do you mean by pulling the regulator vacuum line and seeing if I detect gas? Thanks! Ha, yeah I know the avatar is a little wierd, I went camping and took a pic of the bond fire, I thought it would be unique.

That's the schraeder valve and yep, see if you detect any fuel in the vac line.
