99 lockable gas cap

Anyone know if they even make a lockable gas cap for a 1999 f150, I am going to need one as I will be parking for extended periods of time in some bad areas. I searched in my local area as well as on EBay- with no luck. I did however read on a past forum that a incorrect tightened cap can lead to check engine light coming on- so I didn't know if they make them or not..

I got mine at O'Reilley's for my 2002 (99 should be the same) for about $20. You are correct, the cap need to fit and seal correctly or you'll get a CEL.

Autozone or advance are two large chains. They both sell locking caps 20+.

Got mine at autozone after I took my 1998 to the dealer for a code. Yup broken gas cap. Dealer pprice for a non locking replacement 30+.

Both stores sell over the net.

Something to keep in mind with a locking gas cap. My uncle had a problem several years back with people stealing gas out of his car. He figured they were taking about a tank a month so he bought a locking gas cap. About a week later he went out to his car to find gas puddled underneith his car. Turns out somebody decided to punch a hole in the bottom of his tank and get the gas that way.

Now I am sure most people wouldn't do that, but I figure a few gallons of gas is cheaper than a tank.

That sounds like a personal vandeta deal. I wouldn't care about some stolen gas, I would worry about some sugar or something being put in the tank. Plus I think there's a restriction to prevent siphoning of the gas on these tanks, or you can drop in one of those spring looking devices to prevent that also. Anyway, if some one really wants your gas or mess with your truck, they just smash the cap off anyway. This just makes it a little more work.

Thanks guys I will get on the web and order. I knew that an improper cap led to reading problems so I didn't know if any aftermarket manufactures messed with it. I am not really worried about them stealing the gas, I just know people as well as kids love to place things in them. Again I appreciate it.
