I've heard the Solobarics but none from the other manufacturers. Just wondering if any of you guys have heard any of the off brand square subs and what they sound like.
Pyramid does, but they're complete garbage. The Solobarics are the only square drivers that are worth a darn. They're loud, but definately lacking in the sound quality department.
the solobarics are loud and great for big bass. i heard 3 12 inch solobarics in a caddy devil and it would shake a hat off your head. if you get them get the 12 inch L7's. they are good subs but you will pay dearly for them.
I know the solos sound awesome but a friend had 2 10in L5s and returned them 2x b/c the surround kept coming loose. Returned 1 of them another time b/c the wire broke. I'd hate to pay that much for them and they not last. I'd rather get Pyle or Lanzar. The specs on both look fairly decent and when I was in high school Pyle was the name brand to get. No way I'd buy Pyramid, I think they sell their square subs under the Legacy brand.
New subs are on the backburner now, going to do another project or 2 first
Since I switched to Kicker subs I have had no problems, I worked my way from the bottom of the Kicker line to the top and all of them preformed well. I now run a couple of S8L7 's and a 25th anniversary round 12" and have had no problems with them and I drive them hard. I even push them a little more than I should in the winter (I live in canada it get's damn cold here) and still no problems. One thing is for sure the Kickers square subs will rock your world and if you are on a tight buget the L5's are still sure to impress. Oh yeah one last thing don't waste your money on Kicker subs if you haven't got amps to drive them they are power hungry pigs and eat alot of power.
I recommend Kicker for loudness and they hit hard.. really hard. That's probably why their motto or slogan or whatever it's called is "Livin' Loud." Only problem I have with them is their sound quality isn't all that great. They're really good subs, but sound quality isn't all there.
I have a friend with 2 L5's and he's blown his back window out of his GMC Jimmy twice. Another friend that I have, had 4 12" L7's ran by a Phoenix Gold amp per sub and he blew the back window out of his TrailBlazer (funny how they're all Chevy's). They'll knock your socks off.
Just asking.. what's better about the anniversary round solo's rather than the square? I see the square pushing out more just from the way it's designed. Just curious..
I don't think there is any advantage to a Anniversary edition other that it is just that, if I didn't already own it and was going to go out and buy all new I would have sprung for a L7 12".
Kicker is the only company that actually puts any engineering into their 'square' subs. With more cone area than a similarly 'sized' round drivers, they are ideal for those looking for a ton of output from a smallish to moderately sized enclosure. The 8L7 has earned high praise for actually sounding decent and getting dumb loud. The rest of the L7's sound decent enough, but altogether they seem more geared for sheer output. After it's all said and done, though, it's all about choosing the proper enclosure and proper level settings.
