some 05 info
installed the pioneer avic-n1 and xm tuner
about a month ago
2005 f350
the 05's have the speed sensor wire right in the factory
radio wire harness grey\blk
you will need this for navigation systems
the reverse wire
drop the fuse panel-3 bolts
and looking at it(back side)
I think it was in the upper right corner
you will find the wire
also you have to remove the whole dash panel to access the
factory radio--kinda of a pain in the a--
there is a good post in here on this procedure
its kinda of a sucky design compared to past years
but once you get it apart you will see why its like that
there is gobs of space in there now and the metal frame
is recessed back alot-
if your setup has seperate brain or control box like the avic-n1
a good spot close by over the glove box
drop the glove box--and look up --right under the air bag assy. there
is good size open space--there is a tab coming down off the frame where
you can mount your brain--there is one hole precut on the tab for a screw--line up and drill the second hole--now you can mount the box without the
supplied bracket
on the other end on the brain use a piece of flexible strapping
or I used a heavy duty zip tie over the truck frame and around the whole
brain(you will see how this works -hard to describe) this will keep the unit
from vibrating or moving at all- as its all ready pretty secure from the 2 screws on the other end
this is a good spot as navigation units that need to be level and right side up
and facing straight forward with direction of travel
there are alot of people getting such units now hope this assists

I dont have the steering wheel controls on mine
so no
and Im not aware of any way to intergrate easily
there are available wireless and wired remotes \ voice activation \
and touch screen operation for this and most other aftermarket units
there is some flexibility

Sheesh... I can have 16 fonts and 32 different colors but not a simple up and down volume control with my right thumb!
brianas this isnt at you, just venting here thanks for your great post
I have the same setup as Brianas. 2005 SD CC and AVIC-N1 WITH the buttons on the steering wheel ... and... no surprise, they are now non-functional. Surely I can come up with an alternate use.
My AVIC-N1 brain (Pioneer calls it the "Hidden Box")is mounted under the Head/display. The AVIC-N1 is mounted in the top half of the space where the original double high stereo was. There is a blank panel directly below the head unit, then the brain is mounted below that but inside and hidden.
The AVIC-N1 navigation unit is awesome BUT, has anyone with one of these figured out how to display actual GPS latitude/Longitude coordinates 33.xxx.xxx by 111.xxx.xxx degrees? You'd think for $2200 list, with the ability to track 9 GPS satellites at once and tell you WHICH LANE you are driving in, it should tell you your coordinates so you could 4-wheel offroad and find yourself on topo maps??
the avic n1 has a wired remote input on the back
im sure sooner or later a aftermarket company like PIE will offer
an interface adapter to the those steering wheel buttons
Im sure some one good with electronics and such could make up
an adapter
that is strange about the coordinates
there must be a way -you would think
do you have the dolby processor with yours?
