Power steering box adjustment
I have just resealed my sector shaft with the help from this message board before, so my next question is how do I know how tight or loose to adjust the tension of the steering box with the bolt and lock-nut on the top of the sector shaft? Perferably with the steering box not installed as in my van the bolt is almost unaccessable due to it's relative position to the radiator.
Thanks for your help in advanced.

The Chilton's book has a very extensive manner of steering box adjustment. Very tricky method using a torque wrench on the steering column. Time consuming also. If you really want to take some slop out, the only thing I can suggest is that you do micro adjustments. One small adjustment every day or two. The point is that you need to let every adjustment seat properly so that the steering gears don't bind. It takes time but from what I understand, it works quite well. Making one primary adjustment is almost sure to cause gear bind. Gear bind is worse than a sloppy gear box. At least that's my opinion. Good luck. Jake.
