Depends on if you are building a dragster or a mud bogger. Also depends on the engine, my 460 would out pull a 351 with 450hp just because of the torque!
It also depends on how you build it too, a 351w is a perfect street motor that isn't hog wild with power.
But my flareside has about 350hp, and its very fast, but i wish it had more cam in it, as the cam is just a reground 351 ho (this is what the motor was orginally) cam. But realistly, 400hp is a good balance in a street truck as far as mileage and breakage is concerned, but then again you can never have to much power.
i would just like to have a 12 second truck. I know the 80's styleing resemble that of a brick but it still would be cool to have a street truck. i was planning on having a 393 with a C-6 and 3.50 gears. Rear tires would be 295/50 's or wider. The main point of this project is to show up the bowtie boys
Have you ever heard "there is no replacement for displacement!" A 460 would be easiest to get the big numbers needed to get that "brick" to 12 sec. But as Mustange70 said, a 351W could go fast and get reasonable mileage, but it would take many mods and way more then 450hp to get to 12 sec!
My guess would be 600hp minimum! and built tranny, driveshaft, rear end, etc....
