Loud Engine Nocking
i've had some posts about my previous engine problems. well i finally got the timing right and the engine fired right up. now i've had carb problems and probably need a new one but i was just wondering about something. i put in a new distributer and have problems starting it up with a backfire out the exhaust pipe and a few other odd noises in the engine. now when i start it up there is a loud nocking noise. it sounds like it is more on top of the engine but i can also hear it while under the truck. the timing isn't exact but is in the ballpark where it should be fine to run. my question is is this something i should be worried about or will a fine tuning of the timing and carb cure this? when idling it stumbles quite a bit and when i rev it it doesn't have much response. then after about 5 minutes it slowly lost power and shut off. i'm taking it to a mechanic soon but just wanted some of your input. thanks

does it sound like a rod let loose or what, i worry about any "loud knocking" this usually helps me get motivated looking for a new motor, sorry to be the bearer of bad news hopefully its nothing major cheif
