Transfer Case Problem

I have a 76 F250 4x4. The transfer case is not staying in gear. For example, if I put it in 2wheel hi, it slips out. It seems to want to slip out of all the gears. (4w hi, 2w hi, and 4w lo). The c6 auto transmission works fine. Any ideas on what is wrong of what needs to be done to fix this. Do I need to remove the transfer case?

Also, would a detailed description of my transfer case be in the CD-ROM shop manual? Im thinking about buying this. Any help is appreciated..

Tony

............First , I'd put the truck up on 4 jackstands with ALL wheels safely off the ground . Then , get under truck and check the rod connecting the TFC to the shift handle in the cab. Next , have a friend engage\disengage the TFC in ALL positions and you stand and observe the wheels with the Hubs , Locked . I'm , assuuming here that you have the part time NP205 vs. the 203, full time case . The rod could have become loose and may need some rsetting to properly engage the TFC . After you have evaluated the above then it's time to pull case and start the teardown . sk
