was contemplating going with DSL or cable modem. I went with DSL,and let me tell you,it is a night and day difference between DSL and dial up . was going to go cable, but I am never off work the hours the cable guy could be here, and I didn't want them in my house without me here. i have only had it on for about 24 hours, but so far I am very impressed!!! no more waiting on pages to load, and i just downloaded a 4 minute video in less than 2 minutes that never would have happened with dial up.
I beleiive anything is better then dialup, when we first got cable, I was going to different sites and downloading videos like moovie trailors and stuff.
I went from dial up to DSL when we live out in the sticks and was impressed then when we moved in town I had to go to dial up for a couple weeks until my cable could get hooked up and I thought I would cry waiting for the simplest things to load... Now that I have cable WOOO HOOOO I am happy
I went from 56k to 640k DSL a few years ago and I know the feeling. Problem is, 640k now seems slow!! I'm going to switch to cable here very shortly, downloading a file at 60kbps isn't cutting it anymore when my friends are getting 1-2MB downloads!
Really? TV over the phone line.....please do tell...I learn something new every day.
Well... like we say around here at the phone company... It's not rocket science, it's harder. It's called triple play. Basically you get 1 phone, High speed internet (1.5 mbps) and up to three TV's all over 1 phone line. That's the easy way to put it... without getting into specifics and technologies.
Cable here, with a 4MBit/ps download speed. Comcast just raised it from 3meg.
Will never go back to anything slower than 1meg. Guess I won't be retiring to the cabin until highspeed gets there, and I win the lottery
Next on the list of computer toys you'll need to get is a color laser printer. Just plunked one down on the desk yesterday. You want to talk about speed increase. Used to take 3 minutes to print a high res full color page on the inkjet, now it takes about 15 seconds.

thanks for anwsering for me. thats what it is. for different fees we could have had dsl at 128, 512 or 1mb , 3tvs and our phone line . the tv is digital and the picture better then the local cable company at less then 2/3's for 3 of what the cable wants for 1 tv . its been great and never down like the cable every time it rained or snowed. better programing also.
Here I am living out in the sticks (lol)....No Cable or DSL run out here. I'm still stuck with the 'ol 3k/s....LOL. 3k/s vs some of ya'lls 4mb/s. Over 1000 times faster. Makes me want to cry.

Don't feel bad. Until late 2003, all I had available was dial-up. It was funny that I checked and found I could get DSL, but my neighbors couldn't. Same phone lines. Theirs wasn't available for another couple of months. We did have cable available, Adelphia. I had tried them for TV, which is why I now have DirecTV. No way I was going to use them as an ISP. Plus they require basic cable, which meant the price would have been twice my DSL. DSL I have is the 1.5mbs. My understanding is that sometime in the future that will be upgraded to 3.0mbs.
