Unhappy front hubs driverside

does anybody have any information on why (ESOF)front hubs on driverside 1999 f250 super duty growl or grind so much, have had problems with them after two years. spent 2600 on them last year to get them fixed. is there any way they can be greased or maintaince to make them work better. any information good or bad would greatly be appreciated.

Red face

What kinda noise are you talking about ? Does it start about 1600 or so rpm and stay at about 1900. Kind of a low growl or grind ?? And only starts about that range ?

I've heard that you can remove the rubber line going into the top of the hub, and replace with a zerk fitting(grease fitting). I haven't done it myself yet, but I know a couple guys that have, and they haven't had any problems since.

Isn't the top line the vac line for the locking hubs ??
Why would you use a grease zerk ?? You don't grease it do you ??

robert.. I have that growl with my 6.0 diesel from about 1600 - 1900 RPM's. It kinda sounds like an exhaust growl... drives me nuts on the highway... any ideas?

Nope, I've got the same thing. Sometimes it sounds kinda like road noise but it's always there. I kind of play it off as road noise but I know better, but it doesn't seem to get worse. At one time I though it was from the engine but I don't believe it is.
Just strange and annoying. Maily because it bugs me and I can't figure it out.

I feel exactly the same way.... do you have a lift? I have a 3 inch front lift and a 4 inch rear lift. Basically it's one inch taller in the front and back than an F350. I think it's exhaust/turbo related, but it could be a drive train vibration from the rear lifted blocks....

I saw a service bulletin that said something about a turbo drone. I wonder if that could be it?

Tubro drone ?? What is that ?
At times I do believe it comes from the tubro, but again, I say it's fromt the front hub ?? Any way. Nope no lift here.

i heard that too but, if that is a vacuum line putting grease in their would only clog up the works when you go to engage the ESOF, wouldn't it?

no lift everything is stock, i know it is not a turbo problem, diffently driver side hub, this has nothing to do with the engine or motor,

so do you think that if you shoot grease in, that it is the bearings getting dryout, the guy who does my tires and front end alignment, has said the same thing, i am just concerned about clogging that vacuum line with grease, feel that it would pull grease out of hub and into the line.

I am very curious about the greas zerk thing guy's, I have 112K on mine and It seems to be getting a bit louder now. Just sounds like a dry roller bearing(I believe they are needle bearings though, not sure) to me and seems to be coming from the left side. Also seems to go away when I move the wheel in different pos. It's been doing it for a long time. I am curious cause I unhooked my vacume hubs(and pluged the the line at the selonoid anyway) cause not to my suprise, they leaked so I just use them manually. So I guess I would definitely try the grease zerk thing. I would like to hear some more info if you can find out 10er350, I guess I could do it anyway, what's it going to hurt really. Try to get some details

Yep, I'd like to know as well.....Grease zerks into the vacuum line places on the wheels, and do you grease them or not ?? I'd have a tendency to say not just use them as a plug to keep trash out etc.. But who knows..

Hey All,
I just heard a growl in my left front hub, and I thought it was my main bearings. it would start when I would hit a bump or hit those reflectors in the road. it would growl and the only way to stop it was to step on the brake. well I took off the wheel and the main bearings and it was a small baring for the four wheel drive shaft it was cheep like $7.00 for each one. But the noise drove me insane till looked at it. I have a 1999 F250 cc v10 with 105,000 miles just wanted to share with all of you....

Question

i haven't had any problems with mine but yea that zerk fitting might help. if you did that fitting the esof would be gone then you would just do it manualy. i just don't know how much grease would get to the hub where it needed it. hmm i will have to look into that.
