Trailer lights

I have a 2000 Explorer Sport that has no towing accessories at all...

My question is, is it possible to hook up the Ford OEM (part number 15A416) Light harness or am i going to have to hard wire it.

If I am able to use the ford wiring harness, where is it that it hooks up

Thank you very much for your replies
Matt

Pull out the Volt-Ohm meter and start checking for voltage. I'd be interested to know what you find out.

You can get the plug on ebay and it will plug into the one on the drive side behind the the rear tire. O that is a 4 pin plug. You have the same X and year that mine is. I did buy a hitch on ebay the only thing I had to move was the tow hook/eye.

Heres the part #on the ford part, # XL2Z-13A567-AA cost $38.00 Hope this helps. O you will need to change the plug, The plug has a female end on it and you need a male.

Okay everybody, Snowmobiling was excellent, thanks to my new towing setup, so for everybody out there doing this for the first time here ya go...

I first started at ford and purchased the plug there, part number 15A416, that was my first mistake, then i purchased a ball from Walmart, Mistake #2...

#1 as we all know ford dealer parts are well over prices for what you get, only use the dealer when a parts store won't due, in this case I went to Napa, our local auto parts store and found the same ford harness missing the wire loom and mounting bracket (unnessary) for 15 dollars instead of the 38 dollars, it plugged in just like the ford one would of without any modifications as previously metioned.

#2 I did not know this, but the bumper on my ford needed a 3/4 inch ball, which i didn't even know existed Durr.... Walmart didnt' have them when i went to buy the first one at walmart, which only had 1 inch hitch *****

the plug for the harness was located directlu underneath the drivers side back bumper, nicely hidden from the world, hooking up the harness just was a matter of removing the red nipple that was inside of it, and plugging it in..

Another thing that i never n

Boss came in room...

Another thing that i never notices is that there are places to hook up safety chains already attached under the bumper, very convenient, and hidden for appearance.

Thanks
