66 windshield
has anyone tryed the after market rubbers available at the auto zones or other stores. I have the windshield but not sure it is a little bigger than the opening. is that how it's supposed to be? Got the custom trim but not sure if the rubber availabe is right. I know the ones in the magazine are grooved for the trim but am afraid the window may be an exact fit.

Strongly suggest getting a quality windshield gasket, as well as any rubber or weatherstrip you replace. Had a heck of a leak obviously from previous owner installing inferior gasket. There are number of quality Ford parts supplier's, purchased mine thru Dennis Carpenter. They have an online catalog you can review. Recently replaced windshild and rubber with the groove. Contemplated installing myself but decided to have professionally installed. Cost $300 to replace windshield and grooved gasket, as well as the rear window gasket, i provided both gaskets. Shop did use a sealant. Brock the original windshield while in storage, did not want to take the risk of replacing another. If have not done so, may run a search, recall FBp gave great description on rear window installation, granted less involved than windshield.

Just reviewd FBp's thread on window installation it was dated back in Jan 04; He did type up a great lesson / how to install and it also had comment involving the front windshield.
