E350 Handling with a Dual Wheel Conversion

Finally had the opportunity to drive the van almost fully loaded with 14 people in it since I converted it over to dual rear wheels. For the sake of history, this is a '99 and I have driven it many times fully loaded. When fully loaded, I always felt there was sluggishness in the rear end and the way the van felt, kind of rolling back and forth. I just chalked it to being fully loaded, carrying an extra ton of people cargo. Because of the attention given to the E350 and rollovers, I took the plunge this year and converted over to dual wheels. Cost was about $2,000 and included fiberglass fenders, arrowcraft adapters, four dually rims, 4 new tires, and painting at the body shop. What a difference! Gone was that fishtail feeling and this was driving up narrow roads to a ski resort. I am totally convinced that this was an excellent investment in the safety and handling of the van.

I have a 90 E350. I was thinking about doing the same thing. What all did you do? And where did you get everything? Did it just add stability or can you carry a lot more weight? Thanks.

My conversion was strictly for the rollover issue, not for additional hauling capability. It can already haul a 9300 lb trailer so I don't think I need too much more in that area.

Fenders came from www.adventurevans.com, I spoke to Todd.
Tires (LT225/75R16) are Kumho HT tires from www.tirerack.com
Dually Adapters and rims came from www.arrowcraft.com, I only got the rears only.
Had the body shop mount and paint to match the van.
Put lights on the leading edge of the fenders, got them at Pep Boys.

Cost was $2000. The fenders are molded for the newer body style so you will have a problem in that area.
