Yes, it fits, but no, it won't take a purist to see the difference. The 64-66 tail gate is specific and is extremely similar to a 67-72 and will swap fine. The 73-79 tailgate is stamped dramatically different due to the change in tail lights and so the recess' and body lines won't line up. It will bolt on and work but the first time somebody points out the difference it will drive you nuts from that day until you get a correct one (go ahead, ask me how I know! LOL). Hawkrod

yeah, I picked it up today and the sight lines dont match and it looks pretty bad. It only cost me 35 bucks at the salvage yard so I may throw it on there till I can get my hands on a 67-72 or better yet a 64-66. Oh well, atleast I had an excuse to go to the junkyard.
