If the fuel gauge for an 88 ranger doesnt read above empty (its always resting far left like when truck is off on a properly working gauge) How do I go about testing it and seeing whether its the gauge or the sending unit(s)
it has dual tanks and reads the same regardless of which tank its on.
Im posting this for a friend at work who would love some help, but doesnt have internet access.
I know very little about this truck obviously other than what I stated above, but if you need ay more information, I can ask him.
Pull the wire for the sendor and see what happens to the gauge with an open, then ground the wire. Open should be full and grounded should be empty, or the other way around, I always forget.
Yep, if you get a full reading with the open then you know the gauge is working. You can also measure the resistance of the sendor, if it's below 20 ohms with a 1/2 tank or more then it's a good bet it's the sendor or the float is damaged and it's full of gas.
